I have launched a new product line that I have been preparing for many months. I've entered a completely new field for me, one that I've never had the pleasure of working with before, although I've come across them as a child, as probably everyone else has. It's an exciting new challenge, this new form... but what is it about?
Sticker Sheets!
Yes, stickers. Many small stickers collected around a theme, placed on a piece of paper. Let's dive into the past for a bit, then look at where we are now, and then sketch out a future plan along that line.
Stickers in the old days:
There used to be a frenzy about stickers in primary school! If not everyone, then quite a few people collected them. I did, of course. The passion for collecting found me early... Disney fairy tale, or animal, or Pokemon, but I didn't even despise Dragon Ball. But the real bomb was this:
Even 25 years later, I'd still like to put a few stickers into this album. :)
Then, as the years went by and you got "more serious", the stickers disappeared. It wasn't until a year or two ago that I rediscovered how cool things could be. Mostly the idea of the board game meeple stickers caught my attention (for example, an Everdell or Dinogenics pack can create a whole new vibe), but otherwise there are so many beautiful and interesting ideas out there, it's a wonder! More and more people are discovering this medium, it's now art that some are creating with stickers.
Stickers right now:
This spring I had a flash of inspiration and started drawing and designing. Then I made my first three sticker sheets! Yay!
Although I had a hard time getting the finishing touches, I really enjoyed the relaxed work. It's a very different, very new workflow. In many ways it is simpler than my usual way of painting, but I don't mind. These are my little getaways. They allow me to try new styles and gain new experiences that will hopefully support my regular creative work. But if not, it's a relaxing experience to draw little bits and pieces, so its worth it.
The first copies arrived from the printers this week, so they are now on my desk in physical form. Let's take a look at the first wave, which are now available in my Etsy shop!
This was my first sticker sheet finished. When I drew these dice, I didn't know that the X-Wing was over. It seems to be a sort of farewell to the game, but we'll see what the future brings!
On this sheet you will find a total of 13 stickers, on the theme of attack and defense dice. In addition to the usual red-green pairing, you'll also find some championship dice and a few ideas for crit and evade results. The energy shield dice is my favourite piece here. I wish Serissu had had an extra shield when he rolled five dice and got knocked down immediately on the first turn... Oh, those were the good old days at the LFGS!
Yes, mushrooms. Just like that. I'm not really attached to them in any way, but I'm fascinated by their variety. That's the characteristic I was trying to capture in this piece. They're all mushrooms, but they're all different.
There are 15 little mushrooms on this sheet. My personal favourite is the one that seems to glow yellowish at the bottom of the mushroom head.
It's my favourite vegetable (although whether it's a fruit or not is debatable). As with mushrooms, I wanted to show that there's more than just red. I have four different varieties ripening in my garden all summer and my favourite is nowhere near red!
My new favourite is the treasured Indigo Peardrop! You'll find three of them in a pile on the sheet. The yellowish black one on the right!
There are 18 stickers in total on this sheet.
That's it for a start, but there's no stopping!
Stickers in the future:
There will definitely be more! I would like to come up with a new idea every month or so. As with these, it's completely loose, based on what I feel like doing at the time. I already have ideas, the list is getting longer and longer of what I want to bring in the next installment, but I won't spoil it. Maybe just that it will be magical! :)
I don't want to stop at simple sticker sheets either. I have ideas for other sticker-related products, but for those I'm still in the full experimental, design phase. Maybe next year. :)
What do you think of this line? Which sticker sheet do you like the most out of the three? What would you like to see from me in the future?
